Part-time Director of Sto-Rox Community Library – 30 hours per week

Position Summary: The incumbent will lead the effort to integrate FOR’s community services into library operations consistent with the strategic plan. Performs professional and administrative duties in planning, developing, be responsible for the overall operations of the FOR Sto-Rox public library with particular emphasis on establishing, implementing and conducting adult programming. Strong cross-organizational collaboration with multiple departments involved in arts programming, workforce development and child/parent programs is required. Work involves evenings and weekends.

Job Responsibilities include:

·         Embrace and oversee the operations of FOR’s total library community approach, which includes the braiding of services across the organization and community outreach

·         Plan, evaluate, implement and execute library services to meet community needs consistent with community experience and the strategic plan

·         Plan, market, conduct and facilitate ongoing and new programs designed to engage adult residents of the community

·         Team with other staff members to accomplish multiple programming initiatives important to FOR and the community at large, particularly arts programming, workforce development, Learn and Earn program, etc.

·         Oversee library operations, including cataloging, collection development, electronic resources and assessment

·         Maintain ongoing programs and introduce new programs and special events that respond to the broad demands of the community audience

·         Manage all administrative responsibilities associated with the smooth operations of the library, i.e. employee selection/retention, staff scheduling, staff performance, payroll

processing, budgeting/financial controls, etc.

·         Direct the development/maintenance of the library collection in formats mandated by regulations and reflective of the community and large system needs

·         Write and administer grants and other financial gifts in accordance with planned programs; collaborative work across the organization is essential

·         Maintain required statistics on library usage and prepare associated reports

·         Remain current with professional best practices as defined by the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA)

·         Use various media, including social media, to advertise adult programs and library initiatives

·         Serve as ExOfficio at Library Governance Committee meetings of the FOR Board of Directors

 

Required Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program

·         Three to five years of progressive experience in a library setting

·         Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully across the organization as a member of a diverse team

·         Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to engage, develop and retain staff members

·         Excellent communications skills: verbal and written

·         Positive, creative attitude; ability to work in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment

·         Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office

·         Act 33 and Act 34 clearances

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Prior experience working in a community library setting, particularly with a diverse population

·         Resident of the Sto-Rox community preferred

 

Compensation is $21.00/hour or $1260 biweekly

DEPARTMENT: Positive Parenting

STATUS: Full time, Non-Exempt HOURS: 40 hours per week

REPORTS TO: Program Director

About Focus On Renewal:

The Focus On Renewal Sto-Rox Neighborhood Corporation (FOR) was founded in 1969. FOR founders led a group of mobilized citizens and community activists to create an umbrella organization for much needed social services now ranging from food security, nutrition, early-childhood education, support groups and mental health to arts programs for ages and small business incubation.

FOR has now grown to house 30+ staff at 6 locations throughout McKees Rocks and Stowe Township. The Organization provides support to the people in our community through programs for all ages aimed towards the development of healthy mind, body and spirit. We work with a wide range of partners to ensure high quality programming is accessible to all 13,000 residents of the Sto-Rox Community.

About the Department:

Positive Parenting Family Support Centers are designed to provide education and support to the families we serve. We provide service in three sites throughout the Sto-Rox community to families with children birth through age five. The goal of the program is to prevent child abuse and help children and their families’ transition into the school system.

Family Support programs are based on the philosophy that the most effective way to ensure the healthy development and growth of small children is by supporting the families and communities in which they live. They are designed to increase the strength and stability of families, to increase parents' confidence and competence in their parenting abilities.

Family Support programs not only represent a place where parents can come together to share, support each other, or learn about and benefit from their community's resources but they also represent a community process - anew way of doing business. All segments of the community come together as partners and begin the process of identifying and achieving mutual goals and objectives.

About the Position:

Summary

Family Development Specialist-HOME VISITOR is responsible for providing direct service to families from diverse backgrounds with children birth – 5yrs. The services provided help families set personal goals and deal with the many obstacles that come up in day to day life. This direct service will include facilitating kindergarten readiness program, advocacy and referrals linking families to any needed services.

Essential Job Responsibilities

● Conduct bi-weekly home visits

● Assist families increase understanding of child development and parenting skills

● Refer/advocate on behalf of families and children with outside agencies

● Provide crisis intervention

● Conduct minimum two (2) developmental assessments per year on each assigned child

● Maintain files and complete all paperwork as required

● Attend staff meetings

● Attend minimum of twenty (20) hours of job-related trainings annually

● Ensure welcoming center atmosphere

● Participate in outreach/recruit for Positive Parenting Program

● Maintain the family support center site and ensure welcoming atmosphere

● Maintain confidentiality of ALL Positive Parenting families

Additional Job Responsibilities

● Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

● Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood or related field

● Experience in home visiting

● Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds

● Ability to work independently and as part of a team

● Proficient using Microsoft Word and Google Apps

● Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills

● Must possess valid Pennsylvania driver's license and use of personal vehicle required

with proof of insurance

● Child abuse, Criminal and FBI Clearances

Focus on Renewal is seeking applicants for a Family Development Specialist position in the Positive Parenting department. The incumbent will provide direct service to families from diverse backgrounds with children, aged from birth to six years. The position provides services to help families set personal goals and deal with life’s daily challenges.

Essential Job Responsibilities

·       Organize/facilitate daily kindergarten readiness center based activities

• Develop weekly curriculum

• Assist families in increasing their understanding of child development and parenting skills

• Organize monthly parent and child activities and parent groups

• Refer to/advocate on behalf of families and children with outside agencies

• Provide crisis intervention

• Conduct developmental assessments on each assigned child periodically

• Maintain files and complete required paperwork

• Maintain the family support center site and ensure a welcoming atmosphere

• Maintain confidentiality of all Positive Parenting families

Required Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood or related field

·         Experience working with pre-k-aged children, classroom setting

·         Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Apps

·         Strong interpersonal, organization, written and oral communications skills

·         Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, including associated proof of insurance

·         Act 33 and 34 and FBI clearances prior to employment

 Salary: $15.00 per hour
