FOR Community Center is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays until noon and welcomes friends and neighbors throughout the borough by providing a variety of services including an emergency food pantry, credit union, program assistance, legal aid, and more.

Career Pathways Classes
Focus On Renewal is extremely pleased to announce that beginning September 12, 2011, Goodwill will provide its successful, customer service oriented Career Pathways Classes in the former FOR Learning Center, 710 Thompson Avenue – in the lower level of the FOR Family Health Center in McKees Rocks. This program prepares adults for entry-level employment as well as employment advancement through evaluation, instruction and job coaching. Students will learn to read or strengthen their reading comprehension, improve math skills, study for their high school equivalency test, develop self confidence and apply learned skills to work experiences.
Classes run daily Mondays through Thursdays from 10 am to 1 pm. The Career Pathways curriculum covers equal hours of work-based training and core academic studies for adult learners. Those interested in enrolling in the Career Pathways Classes at FOR should call 412.632.1841.

Family Foundations / Early Head Start provides early, continuous, intensive and comprehensive child development and family support services to low-income families with children up to age three. Its primary purpose is to enhance positive developmental outcomes of children through supportive services to the child, family and community of Sto-Rox. >> Learn more

Sto-Rox Family Health Center provides quality health and dental care for adults and children. In addition to family practice medicine, internal medicine and pediatric care, the Health Center offers obstetrics and gynecologic care, podiatry (foot care), optometry (eye care), and dental medicine (412.771.1839). Counseling and Social Services are also available. Payment is accepted through many private insurances, HMOs, Medicare and Medicaid. Father Ryan Arts Center is a multi-level facility in the heart of McKees Rocks providing resources in all facets of artistic education, enrichment and entertainment that aims to serve residents throughout the region. Sto-Rox Community Federal Credit Union membership is open to any individual who lives or works in the Sto-Rox community. Competitive dividends are paid bi-annually (July and January). Deposits are accepted in any amount, at any time. Withdrawals and loans are available upon request. Payroll deductions can be arranged. Savings are insured up to $100,000.

Legal Aid Clinic lawyers are available the second and fourth Tuesday of the month beginning at 6 p.m. Family law attorneys, and attorneys for Wills & POA documents are ONLY available on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Regular law attorneys are available on both the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Clients MUST register for the clinic to ensure attorneys are prepared to handle the client’s issues.

FOR Sto-Rox Library is the first public library in Sto-Rox, established in 1995. It is a state-certified library and a member of the Allegheny County Library Association and Access PA. Visit the Sto-Rox Library Web site to learn more.

Nutrition and Food Services Program includes individual and group counseling, and assistance with meal planning, budgeting, and purchasing wholesome foods. The FOR Emergency Food Pantry is open Wednesday and Friday, from 2 pm- 4 pm.

Positive Parenting Family Support Centers provide programming to families with children birth through age five. The goal of the program is to prevent child abuse and help children and their families transition into the school system. This program is designed to provide education and support to the families we serve. >> Learn more

Program Assistance is available to help individuals access benefits that are available to them through the following programs:

  • PACE – Low-income senior adults receive help with payments for medications
  • IMPAC – Tenants receive low-interest loans for home improvements
  • Rent and Tax Rebates – For low-income adults, senior adults, and adults with disabilities
  • Energy Assistance Program – For low-income people who have high-energy bills
  • Medical Assistance – Help in applying for the Medical Assistance health care program

Sto-Rox Plaza is a housing community for senior citizens, age 62 and older who may or may not be physically challenged, and for physically challenged adults or all ages. HUD, through the Rental Assistance Program, subsidizes the Plaza. Applications are accepted without regard to gender, race, creed or nationality and are governed by HUD guidelines.
