FOR Sto-Rox Health Center Awarded Grant
In May, community health centers in Pennsylvania were awarded $10.95 million in grant funding made available through the Affordable Care Act, which is the 2010 federal health care overhaul. The money will be used to expand facilities and improve existing services according to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and serve almost 14,000 new patients. Pennsylvania's top recipient is the Sto-Rox Family Health Council in McKees Rocks, which is set to receive $1.9 million. >> Read more

Forty Years of a Healing Presence

Father Ryan and Sister RuthOne of the best kept secrets in McKees Rocks is the Sto-Rox Neighborhood Health Center, conveniently located at 710 Thompson Avenue.

Father Regis Ryan has served as the Executive Director of the Health Center since 1975 with Sister Ruth Bearer who retired this year.

The Health Center’s top priority is meeting the health care needs of residents of Sto-Rox and neighboring communities. The Sto-Rox Neighborhood Family Health Center is a full-service medical center providing quality care for people at every stage of life – from pre-natal to senior years.

Meet Our Team:
We have three primary care physicians who are Board Certified: Dr. Katerina Zavaras, Pediatrics, 19 years with the Health Center (pictured top left); Dr. Tahir Ali, Internal Medicine, 13 years (pictured top right); and Dr. Janette Partezana, Family Practice, 16 years (pictured bottom left). They admit patients to Ohio Valley General Hospital or Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Becky works in collaboration with all the physicians in the Sto-Rox Family Health Center.

Beverly Hinzman, R.N., works six hours a day at the Middle School.

Our specialty care Obstetrics and Gynecology physicians are Dr. O.J. Lee, Dr. Paul Zubritzky and Dr. Patrick Christy who provide pre-natal, OB/GYN and women’s health care to patients on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Jackie and Andy are our women’s health nurses.

Mary Anne, Myra, Sara and Kathy provide clinical support and lab services for adult patients. These services include routine care, comprehensive sick care, physicals, flu/allergy shots, and health maintenance.

Shirley, Kathy Jo, our pediatric nurses, and Rose, a medical assistant, provide support services for Dr. Zavaras. Childrens health care includes immunizations, physicals, EPSDT, WIC physicals and sick care. They also do child obesity and breast feeding education.

Roger Rooth, DPM, our podiatrist, will keep your feet happy and healthy. He sees patients on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The Sewickley Eye Care Group provides our center with a highly qualified optometrist and our optician, John Ehrin, can fit you with glasses.

The Health Center nutritionist is specially trained to counsel people with such health problems as diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity.

Our social service workers can recommend specific agencies and resources to those who need assistance in paying for utilities, housing and other necessities.

Our clerical staff, Charlene, Ida, Cathy, Elaine, and Pat keep the Health Center running smoothly.
