Focus on Renewal - Positive Parenting Family Support Program

Focus on Renewal (FOR) is seeking a Center Aide for its Positive Parenting Family Support Program.

Center Aide

The Center Aide works 20 hours per week assisting the Family Development Speicalist in pre-school curriculum to children whose families are enrolled in the program. The aide will work with children to encourage their healthy development and engaging in relationships with their families in order to support the entire family. This is a part-time, year round position.,

Reports to: Director of Positive Parenting Program

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist Family Development Specialist (FDS) in facilitating preschool five days per week using Positive Parenting curriculum
  • Support the FDS to foster growth in self-esteem, confidence and interest in play and learning
  • Support the FDS in building relationships with parents to build trust, offer support and enhance the development of healthy parenting skills
  • Maintain positive rapport with Family Developmnt Specialist working together as a team
  • Assist in the development of special events
  • Keep all areas of the preschool clean and ensure a welcoming atmosphere
  • Maintain confidentiality of all Positive Parenting families
  • Complete paperwork as required
  • Attend programmatic and agency wide staff meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Experience working with African American families
  • Must be able to go up to 3 different sites in Sto-rox
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 year experience working with young children'
  • Able to obtain Child Abuse, Criminal and FBI clearances

About Focus on Renewal Positive Parenting

Positive Parenting Family Support Centers are designed to provide education and support to the families we serve. We provide service in three sites throughout the Sto-Rox community to families we serve. We provide service in three sites throughout the Sto-Rox community to families with children birth through age five. The goal of the program is to prevent child abuse and help children and their families transition into the school system. Family Support programs are based on the philosophy that the most effective way to insure the healthy development and growth of small children is by supporting the families and communities in which they live. The Positive Parenting Family Support Centers offer:

  • PRESCHOOL three different sites in the Sto-Rox community 5 days a week 9:00 a.m. to Noon. We strive to promote self-esteem, social skills and skills necessary to enter kindergarten.
  • PARENT GROUPS/PARENT & CHILD ACTIVITIES
  • HOME VISITS - Every family receiving service through Positive Parenting will receive a minimum of one home visit a month. The purpose of home visits is to provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.

Part-time Job Opportunity through Allegheny County
Please note this position is available through Allegheny County's STEP program and individuals hired are NOT employees of FOR.
The Senior Training and Employment Program (STEP) provides work experience and training opportunities to Allegheny County residents age 55 and older who meet income guidelines. Individuals enrolled in the program receive 20 hours of training/work experience in nonprofit or government agencies and are paid minimum wage. Applicants must 55 or older and unemployed for at least six months. Income cannot be more than 125% of the poverty level.
